The LOOM Plein Air Invitational

LOOM invites artists living and working in the Hudson Valley and surrounding region to apply for one of five spots in the inaugural LOOM Plein Air Invitational.
The Invitational brings together artists whose work pays close attention to landscape through drawing and painting. We understand landscape not simply as scenery, but as the living, built, social, and ecological world around us, where the natural and unnatural are continually entangled.
Over the weekend, participating artists will spend time in and around Philmont looking, observing, and responding to the surrounding landscape, architecture, infrastructure, and community through drawing and painting.
Selected regional artists will join the invited artists throughout the weekend and will be included in the public closing gathering at Sunfair in Hudson on Sunday, October 25.
What Selected Artists Receive
Open Call will select five local artists.
Each selected artist will receive:
A $150 participation stipend
Shared lunches on Friday and Saturday
A group dinner with participating artists and the LOOM team on Saturday evening
Participation in the Sunday public gathering and presentation at SunFair
Inclusion on the LOOM website and program materials
No application or participation fee.
Artists must bring their own art supplies and an easel. Artists may use easels for working during the weekend and for displaying work at the Sunday gathering.
Who Can Apply
The open call is intended for artists living and working in the Hudson Valley and surrounding region.
This year’s Invitational focuses primarily on drawing and painting and is especially suited to artists interested in landscape, observation, place, ecology, architecture, infrastructure, and the relationship between the natural and built environment.
